CA84 - Torrey Pines Glider Port
«

Hey all,
Spent the afternoon at the Glider Port in Torrey Pines, a state beach north of San Diego. What a blast... I haven't had this much fun shooting aviation since my first time. No crowds of photographers, no fences, no security guards telling you to leave, no noise... awesome. If any of you have any form of glider operation running nearby, you should check it out.
Some photos attached. Computer problems almost put me out of service, but luckily I got it working again.
#3 - crowded airspace.

#2 -- I wouldn't dare do a caption contest on this one. The lady looked like she was scared SHITLESS.
#4 -- This little girl was 6. She was having a blast... I've never seen such a big smile, so many waves... dad was her hero today.
Thats it for me. Stay tuned for Tony's eye.

Great stuff Mike. How wide is that first shot (And the shot of Tony)? 15mm fisheye?
Now... I KNOW what beach is directly below the glider port. Fess up. Did you take the 500? Cm'on... show us THOSE shots too...
That first shot is "Grade A."

True, it's
predominantly
Hillcrest. But I remember there were a few female gems to be seen down there as well...

Hillcrest is a magnet for hot babes. They feel safe there, among the girlie guys.
Everything there was 15-FISH (salamander), 28-135 (girlfriend), 1-4 (pusher), 170-5 (schlongma), 70-200 (hot babe with short hair), and/or 70-200 mit der 1.4x teleconverterencontraptionenthingen(hot babe with short hair that surfs).
The 5 will be the next thing to bring down, but man, some of those RC glider passes were <15mm.

Even Superman had to take flying lessons....(I was laughing too hard to shoot a photo of the woman who went off in a tandem like this screaming "I'M GONNA DIE!"

Wow, great work guys.
THIS is what aviation is all about - having fun, and exploring and extra dimension. So that's what aviation photography should capture, and these pictures capture it better than most pictures of aerobats and jets.
Picture 2573 looks like an air-to-air shot. I love pictures where a model looks real, those are so hard to get, those models move so fast...
Awesome pix.
