Was lucky enough to be in the desert sunshine rather than the cold of the UK this last week. Dubai is a fantastic place for a winter break, and even better when you can sneak off to Sharjah Airport, buy a ramp pass, and wander around the wide variety of aircraft that are to be found. Plenty of Russian cargo aircraft, mostly sitting around waiting for their next job.......

All the above carried out with the approval of the 'boss', she was relaxing in the spa at the hotel..... Dance

you can simply buy a ramp pass and go about your business?
What restrictions do apply? Just curious...

It is just as simple as that Grin

If you go to the Sharjah airport website, there is a section about photo passes. Basically you submit a request, and if approved you supply the required documents (passport pics, photocopy of passport entry pasge etc) and pay 350 dirhams (approx £45). You are then allowed free reign around the airport, as long as you don't stray too far from the edge of the apron......so I spent a morning wandering around, hitching a lift when necessary from passing airport vehicles. You cannot take pictures of the UAE government ramp, the UAE AF helicopters or the ramp containing the crashed Polar Air 747F (though I know some folks have shot away on the last ramp, I wasn't keen to push my luck as they had told me not to do so...!!)
