I was told this C-130 is the oldest A model still flying.  The boom on the aircraft disperese a chemical that will cause an oil slick to break up before it gets to shore.  All of this is done at 75 feet.

Wow, looks like one of the former C-130A air tankers owned and operated by TBM (Tanker 63, 64 or 67) throughout the 90s and into the early 2000s. The USFS stopped granting contracts to any of the operators with C-130As. Sad I wonder who owns the aircraft now, I think TBM went under shortly after the USFS cut them out... just like most of the operators that had received the former USAF Hercs. Hawkins & Powers also went under, as did Hemet-Valley Flying Service.

Hemet-Valley Flying Service lost one C-130 air tanker (Tanker 82) over Angeles Crest while enroute to a fire. The aircraft suffered a mid-air explosion believed to have been caused by a wing seperation. Then Tanker 130 (Hawkins & Powers) had a wing box failure seconds after dropping a load of Phoschek on a fire in the Yosemite National Forest and crashed, killing all 3 aboard. It was caught on tape. Sad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dgzBjQvqMs

Somewhat of a tangent but it's the reason there aren't any more civilian C-130s fighting fires in the US. Which is a shame.

Incidentally, the three surviving Hercs owned by Hemet-Valley Flying Service were sold off to International Air Response.
