Shutterbug techniques

A friend a work gives me his old photo mags and I read this article the other day which I didn't know about. When downloading your images you can embed your name, phone number and such into your images. I just read how to do this from my camera but the number of characters was limited.

Also the article points out when you "save for web", this info isn't saved to the jpg. So if you don't add your copyrights to it, you make it easier for someone to take.

Just thought this was worth sharing. Afro

if you use Lightroom you can re-import the JPGs to add the copyright etc back in after PS save for web has stripped it out (I'm sure other apps do the same thing)

Here is an observation about photos posted on the web that is not directly mentioned in the article. If you right click on a photo and select Copy Image (ex. to paste the image into a photo editing program), the embedded information is NOT copied. The same is true if you use the print screen key. The only time the embedded information will be saved is when you select Save image As or use the copy of the photo in your browser cache. As the article mentions using a visible watermark in addition to the embedded information can further protect your photos.
