Hello,

hope someone can shine a light on the below problem for me.

During the Barksdale Airshow several weeks ago my camera (300D) "broke." As you can see in the attached picture part of the mirror remained in front of the sensor resulting in partial pictures. During this event the autofocus still worked fine and could shoot at regular speed. In the evening, after the equipment cooled down somewhat, the mirror worked fine. But the autofocus did not work. It will spool trough the normal range of autofocus but will never stop when the pictures is sharp. In manual mode it works as normal.

Let me know what you think the problem could be.

Thanks for your suggestions and your help.

Seb.

This could be a tell tale sign of shutter failure.  I would send it into Canon for repair.  I've read that this can be anywhere from 150.00 to 250.00 to repair.  For a 300D, you may not want to spend that for repair, but rather put that toward an XT or XTi for not much more money...

Thanks Comet.

You are absolutely right. The XTi would be so much better.
