Remember to use the swab only once on each edge.  Wipe, change angle, wipe, toss!

And don't be disappointed/frustrated if it takes a couple of passes to get everything clean.

I had a friend of mine work my sensor over, and no dice.  We tried the spinning sensor brush as well as some wet solution.  But i've got some really stubborn spots.   Angry Angry Angry Angry

I may take it to the local store and have them give it a go.

I just tried the sensor swab technique for the first time. There were no visible spots appearent. The swab is just slightly too big for the sensor and it gets caught along the rails on both sides of the sensor. I assume you're supposed to wipe horizontally across the sensor. Is this correct?

I'll be shooting out at Chino today, so we'll see. The spot's i've encountered mostly show in overcast conditions (or haze) so Chino will be the perfect test.

Not with the CopperHill kit I use.  The pad ends up just wider than 1/2 the height of the sensor, so two passes (one each direction using opposite sides of the pad) cover the entire surface with some overlap down the center.

What kind of swabs are you using?

Do you perhaps have swabs for a full-frame or 1.3 crop sensor?

Geoff, thanks for the quick response!

"Sensor Swab" is the brand name and the swabs are "type 2- 1.6X". I ordered these specifically for the Rebel XT.

Not sure about the crop sensor type you mention. These were ordered thru "Micro-Tools.com"

Hmmmm....  You're right that the "type-2" is the correct swab for your XT: http://www.photosol.com/cameras_bymfg.html

From the Photographic Solutions demo animation, it appears that the swabs are designed to fill the height of the sensor:

I hadn't checked that before (and I haven't bought any yet).

You might try calling/e-mailing Photographic Solutions and ask if what your seeing is normal, but it sounds like it is.
